Dulwich Runners 2019 Club Championships Results

NUMBERS

After 9 races from 1 mile to 42.195 km from the precision of the London Olympics Warm up track to Knole’s Deer Park the 2019 edition of Dulwich Runners’ Club Championships is complete!

53 women and 83 men completed at least one event in the championships with an increase of 14 runners from 2018.

Two events were standout for popularity in 2019. 75 attended the usual showcase at Dulwich Parkrun in February but even more amazingly 73 completed the Big Half Marathon showing what a popular event it has become. Both are back for the 2020 edition!

The Marathon was equally as popular as in 2018 with 19 women and 34 men running at least one which is always special given the original development of the club for a group of friends to train together to run the London Marathon in 1980.

CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS

To complete and qualify for the championships, runners had to finish at least 5 events including at least one race from each of the short and long categories. 14 women and 27 men qualified having achieved this feat, resulting in the same grand total as 2018.

GRAND SLAM WINNERS

4 runners (Marta Miaskiewicz, Yvette Dore, Michelle Lennon and Barrie John Nicholls also completed the unofficial “grand slam” of 9 races. Barrie John emphasised the tennis connection by running the Sevenoaks 7 and swiftly turning into Centre Court fare for a mad dash to the Men’s Final. With the move to 8 events in 2020 it would be good to see some more grand slammers!

WINNERS

Men and women competed within age-group categories (<40, 40-50, 50-60 and 60+) alongside an overall age graded championship. In order to be as fair as possible and enable runners of different ages and sexes to compete, this was worked out using the 2015 WMA age grading tables which awards points according to how well you ran against the world best for your age and gender.
